Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart lends his support to manager Philippe Clement, unveils January transfer plans and announces comprehensive review of the team

Former Manchester United chief Stewart, who recently started his role at Ibrox, acknowledges that it could have been a "simple decision" to dismiss the Belgian boss due to the disappointment of fans. Despite this, he draws on his experience at Old Trafford to emphasize that frequent managerial changes are not always beneficial.

Stewart did warn results must improve with no "cast iron guarantees" offered to Clement, whose side have won just three away league matches this season and go into the weekend 15 points behind Celtic. He also dismissed the suggestion that a lack of finances are behind the decision to keep the 50-year-old at the helm.

A "root and branch review of the entire football department" will begin on Monday with external assistance - lasting between six to 12 weeks - as he aims to tackle the issues that have blighted the club on and off the field in recent seasons.

He also revealed the club will look to add "one or two" players in the January transfer window with centre-back a priority they have been looking to address since December.
