The 42-year-old's contract was set to expire at the end of the season, sparking interest from top clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, Arteta has now ended all speculation over his future by signing a new deal with Arsenal which will keep him tied to the club until 2027.

Speaking about his future in the summer, Arteta told CNN: ‘In football it’s about what we’re going to do today and what you hopefully can do tomorrow.

‘[In] this profession having this uncertainty is quite helpful. At least, it motivates me, keeps me on my toes, and it keeps me hungry to go again.

‘We have a great relationship with everybody at the football club. I’m really happy where I am and things will take care of themselves.’

Arteta joined Arsenal in December 2019 and has played an integral role in transforming the team’s performances during his five years as manager.

The Spaniard guided Arsenal to victory in the FA Cup in 2020 but has cemented the Gunners’ status as credible Premier League title challengers to Manchester City.

Arsenal have finished runners-up to City in the last two seasons, while last term, Arteta’s side ended the campaign just two points behind Pep Guardiola’s men following a close title race.

Arteta is currently preparing his Arsenal side for their north London derby against Tottenham this Sunday.
