Introducing Vijay Kumar Vyshak: From Maiden T20I Call-Up to Dismissing David Warner on IPL Debut

New Delhi: The Indian team for the upcoming T20 series against South Africa has been revealed, with the promising young talent Vijay Kumar Vyshak earning his maiden call-up. Hailing from Karnataka, Vijay has been a consistent performer for his state team and also represents Royal Challengers Bangalore in the high-octane Indian Premier League. Vijay's journey to the national squad has been nothing short of impressive. He marked his List A debut for Karnataka during the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 24, 2021, showcasing his skills and talent. Subsequently, he made his T20 debut for Karnataka in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on November 5, 2021, further proving his worth in the shorter format of the game. His stellar performances did not go unnoticed as he earned his first-class debut for Karnataka in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy on February 17, 2022, where he continued to impress with his all-round abilities. Vijay's inclusion in the Indian T20 squad for the series against South Africa reflects the team management's trust in his potential and talent, and fans are eager to see him shine on the international stage.

On April 7, 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Vijay as a replacement for Rajat Patidar for the 2023 Indian Premier League. He made his IPL debut against Delhi Capitals on April 15, 2023. Initially, Vijay Kumar was an opening batter, but he later shifted his focus more towards bowling. He took his first wicket in his IPL debut, dismissing Delhi’s captain, David Warner.

Vijay Kumar has taken 99 wickets in 25 first-class matches and has 34 wickets to his name in 21 List A matches. In T20s, he has claimed 42 wickets in 30 matches. Now, it remains to be seen whether he gets to play in any match during the T20 series against South Africa. The T20 series will begin on November 8, featuring a total of four T20 internationals, all of which will be played in South Africa.
