NBA icon LeBron James added another impressive achievement to his already legendary career on Saturday, clinching the Olympic MVP title with his standout performance in leading Team USA to their fifth consecutive gold medal and 17th in total.
James averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.3 steals in six tournament games, all U.S. victories. He played his usual steadying role in Team USA’s 98-87 triumph over France for the championship with 14 points, six rebounds, 10 assists and two steals in 33 minutes.
James joins fellow American standout Kevin Durant (2020) and Argentina’s Manu Ginobili (2004) as the lone players to be named Olympic MVP in history.
James also made the Olympic All-Star Five, joining Team USA’s Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokic of Serbia, France’s Victor Wembanyama and Dennis Schroder of Germany.
